Steering sectors length?
« on: August 18, 2010 - 10:30:39 PM »
This is for my 1972 Cuda it is manual now but I want to put in power steering. Is there a difference in the length of the steering shaft from manual to power steering? I know the end of the power sector is smaller diameter but is the shaft length the same? I have the pump and sector ready to go in but some one told my son the the length was different. I just do not want to pull it apart and not get it to fit back together.

Yes they are different lengths.

If you are looking to swap to power, I have an extra power colum, and an extra power shaft.  I woudl be willing to trade either one for a good manual shaft!

I have no issues shiping the power shaft to the US.  I woudl rather see you use the right parts!

I can even give you a US address (Niagara Falls NY) to ship the manual shaft!

How much shorter is it though than a manual shaft? Anyone know for sure how long it should be?

Someone has to know what the length should be.  :clueless:   Maybe I will have to cut mine to fit and drill it!   :pullinghair:   :banghead:

I just measured the spare power shaft that I have, it measures 40.5 inches.

I hate to see you cut up a part to make it fit when the right part is available...if you PM me you address I will ship you the shaft that I have. I would rather see it get used then just sit here taking up space.

When it get to where it gets put away for the winter is when I will switch it.  That way if I run into anything I will have all of the time I need to get it done. I am still driving it and will take it to a show and shine Oct.3.
