Distrubition block, Proportioning valve or both?
« on: September 16, 2010 - 12:54:45 PM »
Do these challengers come with both a proportioning valve and a distrubition block? Or one or the other? I ordered a new prop. valve and what I recieved was not what I had. Come to find out what I took off was a distrubition block. I have no recollection of the prop. valve. My 72 was 4 wheel manuel and I am putting disc on the front.

the factory prop valve has the warning light but an adjustable proportioning valve will do the same job without the factory valve

Thanks. I think I am going to go with a stock piece though. If I am understanding correctly. The master cyl. with 2 chambers requires the proportioning valve. Yet mine had 4 wheel drums, a 2 chambered m/c and a distribution blok. Heaven only know though what was changed before I got it. I just am trying to figure out the way it should be with going to the disc brakes.

the disc brakes require a proprtioning valve as well as a distribution block in 70 , after that it was one piece that did both jobs , you need a proportioning valve with a disc drum combo as the rears will lock up early without it

Thanks Chyrco. Thats the one I got from inline. I thought it was the wrong one because it looked nothing like the one I had taken off. Thats when I called inline and they said what I took off was the dist. block. I did not know which one to put back on. I do now though. Thanks for the help! ;D

I've got disc front/drum rear with a booster and the later model aluminum master cylinder off of a Dodge van. I just ran a tee from the master cylinder to the front brakes and an adjustable proportioning valve on the rear brake line. I've never had a problem with this setup, and the brakes work great! Granted, there is no brake warning light with this setup, but I check my fluid levels regularly so it's not a problem
