Would you trade?

...a 1970 340 with X heads for a 451 (stroked 400) with choice of factory heads?  My end goal is to generate cash to help finance a block from Ritter Racing ($3000).

I guess the real question is, "Which is more marketable, a 340 or stroked big block?"

Around Atlanta, I'd say the 340 is still slightly more desirable, but demand for 400 blocks for stroker motors are keeping their cost high as well.  Since your 400 is already stroked, not so sure.  For me it would depend on if I would use the motors as is or just as a core for a more agressive build.  If one was more ready to be used that might tip the scales in its favor.

Hmm. That's a tough one. I sure love my 451 but dollar wise I think the 340 is probably worth more since they're harder to find.

   Seems to me that there should be more to considered for a short term transplant other than which will be most valuable in the end.
   If your car is set up for a small block now the small block swap would be simpler & less costly but anything you do from now on for the small block will probably not be transferable for you ultimate goal if it's a big block.
   And of course to change from a small block to a big block now will have extra cost & work involved but a lot of that could still be used ultimately.   
   So I'd say how big a of a bite are you prepared to take at this juncture may reveal the answer you seek.

Wade, I'm really just looking at this deal to help finance the Ritter small block.  Yes, I'm small block now, but neither of the engines in question will be going into my car, so "installed" cost isn't a concern.
