Need a new oil pan.... any thoughts?
« on: September 26, 2010 - 09:10:05 PM »
My oil pan just lost a fight with a manhole cover (long story).  I had a Milodon deep sump, but it came straight down from the motor.  These seem to be my choices and I'm leaning towards dropping the extra money to get the one with the most clearance (31580).  Any thoughts???

You've got to run a shorter pan than you are running now or you will just be in the same situation again.

Get the Milodon 7" street pan or the Milodon 31580. The Milodon 31580 is a sweet piece with lots of trap doors gates and such to keep oil around the pickup. Many people buy that pan to get more capacity and have a pan that is stock depth that will live on the street. It's shorter than the Hemi pan even!

Is there any reason you are running a deep sump or feel you need a bigger pan?

The street hemi 6 qt pan could be a economical compromise: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MIL-30761/

"Is there any reason you are running a deep sump or feel you need a bigger pan? "

I have had the deep sump on since I built this engine and I definitely want to stay with a deep sump.

As of now, I think ill choose between 4Cruizn's pan or the 31580 that has even more clearance.

Does anyone have that 31580???

I don't have that part number pan, but basically the same bottom end that used on many of thier road race pans.

Heres a more detailed pic of a 31580. It's a much more complicated pan than a drag pans. Trap doors even in the side pods.

How does the Milodon 31580 pan fit with stroker cranks?

I do not see a clearance issue with a stroker crank & the road race pan .
I did have difficulties fitting it through the later 73-74 K frame though as the left engine mount has extra bracing on it

Didn't know the E-body K frame changed in 73-74. Or did you ad on the bracing?  Do you have any picture of the K-member. And pictures of the installation area that is it close. I will pass it on to Milodon.
