Can I use a b-body 8 3/4" rear housing in an a-body?
« on: October 18, 2010 - 07:46:01 PM »
I would like to use a b-body 8 3/4 rear axle assy in my 69 Dart, unless I have to shorten it and get new axles. I've heard you just have to relocate the spring perches 1/2" inboard. Anyone know anything about this?

the 65-70 B body diff is short enough to do this but you still need special offset wheels to center the tire , 71- up are much wider track

I only wish i could find one for my Dart didn't cost an arm and leg. For what i would have in a 8 3/4 i could do up a Dana and have a stronger rear end.

I have an 8 3/4 under my 71 Dart, but honestly don't know what it came out of, it was installed when I bought it.

Dennis, a dana 60 would be great, but unless you are a steady straight liner why add the extra weight? Aside from the cool killer look of a dana I think the 8 3/4 for street use is prefered due to cost. Besides, the cops frown upon repaving the streets  :roflsmiley:

actually for the cost the dana may be the best solution , you can get a dana built for under 2 k to the spec you want with all new parts & in a magazine test it really didn't significantly affect the et in the 1/4 & the extra 50 lbs helped traction
