ok, so here's a follow up Q

since I have the passenger side SE chrome intact, would these resto places that are out there and deal with chrome be able to use those pieces as templates to make the driver side chrome? I would much prefer original NOS, but if nothing is available then perhaps the new chrome trim would be acceptable to the car collecting community w/o dropping th value of the car too much?

Cuda and Challenger belt moldings (top of door) are totally different. I think the reason the cuda moldings got reproduced is that more cars came with them than Challengers and the cuda moldings are aluminum which is easier to work with than the Challengers' stainless steel.

The cuda moldings carried through 74, but the Challenger moldings were 70-71 only and mostly came on S.E.'s.

I know the original was pot metal and it cost about $1800 to have it redone correctly.

Challenger6pak, I JUST got a quote form someone who has been restoring pot metal for 35+ years in Minnesota..
He quoted me to fix the damaged piece and rechrome: $250.00
to re chrome the hood piece $200.00
to re chrome the non broken piece $ 150.00

So a total of $600.00 to make these pieces MINT!!!
a savings of $1,200.00

You will save about $1200.00.  If he is good go for it.  I had Paul's Chrome do mine.  It was expensive and better then factory when done.  Take a look at www.paulschrome.com.  Click on their restoration procedure.  See if your guy does it the same way.  If he does, jump on it.  It is a good deal.  If he does it differently, the chrome will most likely will peel.

I need a new source for chrome plating aluminum. Could you post your guy's info or PM it to me?

Thanks!

I had mine done around 12 years ago.  No one else was doing them at that time. As I said have him do it.  I never was challenging what you said.  I will be the first to say I don't know everything.  People who know me will attest to this.  One of the reasons I like this board is that everyone can pool their knowledge and use the best venders and techniques to do their cars.  Post the guys info so that people can use him.
