    1968 440ci Steel Crank (In Nz) Worth it?

    What do you lads think? Is it worth it? Would be a great start to my new project, only problem is I'm not sure when I'll get a Charger body for it.  dontknow Could be a few months (doubt it) or more likely a few years. I could build it up with my spare time and money and I was thinking it would be a great block to have incase anything (god forbid) happens to the R/T's original block.


    What should I do? Is it pointless keeping it in the garage for months maybe years?  :-\

    What kind of questions should I ask the seller to find out more about it? What was it pulled from? Overall condtion of block (cracks etc)?

    (It's pretty vague description but you can see enough. These engines don't pop up to often down here so keep that in mind.)  wave

    Looks like a quckie spray bomb. Has it been rebuilt? $ 1,000 for a running 440 HP complete is fair around here so I'd deffiently say it's worth it if everything checks out. Plus's are it already has the distributor,P/s pump with brackets, manifold ,water pump housing,etc.If you got the cash I'd pick it up. It's not going to loose value sitting in your garage! thumbs

    NZ Buddy,
      I'm concerned :o I don't want to see you spreading yourself too thin. I know you want a 68 Charger, and this to put in it, but you haven't even finished off the Challenger yet. I think you should concentrate on that for now, then look for other projects. I know you are young and ambitious, but take your time with this. I think you'll be much happier.  laughup

    if you're concerned about the block in your chally, buy the 440, yank yours and put it away for $afe keeping. run the piss out of the non original 440 and if it blows, it's not a big lo$$.
    it's what i would do.
    if i ever get the 383 71 vert tracked down, it's what i'm going to do.

    IMO AND MY.02c id buy it and either let it set or id put it in the Chally and let the #'s motor set in the garage. that way if you hurt a motor its not the #'s one and then it wont hurt the value of your car. that is why im going to keep the 318 out of my Cuda in a bag in the garge and then go and whoop on the stangs ans rice with a 440   driving burnout thumbs

     nono  I'd be reeeal careful NZ, I know engines are scarce in your neck of the woods but If I was looking for a 440 and was going to pay that much (buy it now 2200.00) why not buy that 6Pak engine PG had on here? (I think it was PistolGripper) Anyway, not positive. Of course, shipping is probably outrageous though!  dontknow JMHO. Get a list of suppliers he used to build it and if any machine work, where he had it done so you can check up on it. It's worth it if it is the real deal and will run decent.  thumbs

    Thanks lads, although I really want to buy it I think I will take the advice of MEK.  thumbs

    It would be nice to have a spare engine or a built one waiting for my Charger but your right MEK I'm looking to far ahead, I don't need it right now, the Challenger is plenty. I'll drive the #'s 440 Ma MoPar isn't that frail!  laughing But I won't work it up unlike a custom ("clone" - Hate clone as a word). engine.

    Yeah...Listen to MEK...becasue i'm young and ambitious and i'm gettin way over my head...although...........if you think about it this way...drop the money on it..then yuo have the 440 and if you run low on dough then sell the engine and make a profit...if you don't run low on dough you still have your 440s .....thats the way i think about things....Like the 70 duster i'm tring to get...for 100 i figure drop 100 and if i can part it out for more than 100...it was worth it...otherwise i have another slant 6 3spd duster in my hands....that i could fix up later on...

    I do the same thing NZ always want to buy everything! I wish i could buy every rusted mopar i see sititng in someones yard just to have! Wouldnt a beyond reapir cuda be cool as a fish pond/flower bed  dogpile

     iagree with with 74 and I do the same thing, always rubber neckin  grinyes goin down the road looking for something I can bring home! I found a Barracuda I have had my eye on for a while, it appears to be just like LB's, (not quite in that condition though) It is just sitting in some guys field. I need to stop and check on it. Every time I think about stopping and checking on it, I wonder if I really need another one... what the hell am I thinking!!! YES Always!!! The more old Mopars around the happier I am but it's not my wifes idea of happiness I can assure you.  nono
