Electric fuel pump location????
« on: July 25, 2012 - 11:01:30 PM »
Hello folks need some advice(as usual) I purchased a Holley billet electric fuel pump 12-700 with bypass fuel pressure regulator. In the instructions Holley says mount close to the tank but they don't give max distance. I just cannot mount it right beside the tank due to 3" TTI exhaust, stock tank etc. without fabricating a fancy bracket.  I am thinking about putting it right ahead of the frame rail which is about 4' of fuel line away and all downhill. It is a perfect spot for the size of the pump. Do you think this will be to far away??? I am going to call Holley but they are usually vague with their answers as evidenced in their instructions. Here is a pic of the pump.

you should be OK , once it is down hill it will siphon fuel out of the tank , I have often mounted them above the diff between the shocks

Thanks Chryco, I contacted Holley today and they said 24" of fuel line to the pump at the absolute max - I was surprised at their definitive answer. I will look at mounting a little higher next to the tank but am concerned due to the gerotor design of this pump if the pump is higher than the bottom of the tank. I am thinking of having a mount welded to one of the tank straps near the bottom and hanging it somewhat between the diff and the tank. Any idea how much the diff rolls toward the tank under torque / load. How much room should be left between the back of the diff?

Just took a look at some Ebody pics with Dana 60's in them - mine is 8 3/4. One of the pics is Brad's70 - very nice Brad - anyways that 60 looks very close to the fuel tank although hard to tell in the pics. If that is the case I think I will have lots of room in between without worry. Anybody have a measurement of the Dana 60 space to the tank???
