73 cuda rust repair
« on: November 21, 2005 - 08:33:11 AM »
Went and looked at the 73 'cuda, thanks again to everyone for the help decoding and etc.
The cuda has a rusted trunk floor, and frt and rear floor pans both sides, and its pretty extensive. The floors dont scare me too much, but the frame kinda does. The rear portion of the rear frame rails are rusted approx 8" in length, most of it all the way thru. Is this repairable with new sections? Are they available or are they a custom make??? The other question I have is the 1/4s were replaced years ago, and still look good, but the wheel houses are not welded to the 1/4s, I guess a patch could be welded between the 1/4s and the wheel houses, or not....thats why Im here, Im no expert!

Sorry nobody responded to this earlier.  I don't know all the specs on this '73 'Cuda (like if it was a 340 car), but I'd say if you're set on buying a 'Cuda you may as well save this one.  The rear frame rail sections are reproduced, so you should be able to get the rot problem repaired the proper way.   For now, try www.autorust.com as they should carry the rails you'll need.  You should be able to slip some metal between the 1/4 panel lip and the wheel housings as I believe that's what the shop had to do with my passenger quarter to reach the aftermarket outer wheel housing.  Keep us posted with what you end up doing with this car.  If you need anymore sheetmetal, Sherman's Parts in Michigan should have whatever you'll need.

Thanks for putting up the autorust.com link SC 73. I was not aware of these guys. They may come in handy down the road for my project, and they're not too far away from me either. I'm in Worcester Ma.  Maybe an hour away
