Always see this real nice, clean, 71 Chevelle cruising when I am in my truck or wife's van. They are always pounding it pretty good and have always wonder how bad arse it was. It sounds good and it has dual 3" exhaust. So, I see it this morning in my Chally. Wait for them to pull up to me, give them a heads up. He mashes his pedal and we take off. I pull on him right away and then pass him, let off. He keeps going and going. I decide to follow him and we go out to the highway. Same thing, punch it, real him in, pass him and get off it. He stays on and keeps going. He gets off the highway and pulls over a ways up the road, gets out and looks under his car. Jumps back up and comes over to my car. I tell him nice car, and ask what he has in it. 454 punched to a 468, Brodix heads, MSD, and FAST fuel injection, Turbo 400, 4:10s, and 3" exhaust. Nice set up. I asked him, are you going to tell all your buddies you got whooped by a Mopar? He said, what do you mean??? WHAT??? I looked at his buddy and said you going to let him say that? He goes, we beat you once we got over 80. I said I let off, want to try again??? They said one more. Went back and I went to a 100 pulling them more than a car length. Pulled up to a light and said what about now? They just drove on.
So, I thought, I wonder how quick it is? With a camera to time it, punched it from 40 mph. It took ~4.5 seconds to get to 100 mph. It is amazing how much faster it feels than what it actually is. Eventually I want to go to the strip to see what it will turn, but I just thought it was interesting that it took so long. Felt like just a second, LOL!
