Remote Control Mirror Install Question
« on: November 03, 2010 - 09:36:48 AM »
Since I bought my 'cuda in March, I was under the impression that my remote mirror was broken somehow - the mirror flopped around but the joystick wouldn't move.  So I recently bought a replacement from YearOne.  When I got my door panel off I discovered that the cables had been cut of the mirror and the control stick.  The builder stuck a big fender washer on the barrel of the control and installed it into the door panel.  The fender washer was restricting the movement of the control.

The new mirror came with no instructions.  It included a rectangular bright-dipped steel clip about 1-1/2" by 1-1/4" with a rectangular opening in the middle and small tabs in the opening - 2 on one side and 1 on the opposite side.  Maybe to slide over the barrel of the control like the aforementioned fender washer?

Does anybody know how these things were installed in the factory?  Were they not attached to the door sheet metal somehow?

Would appreciate any help.

the cable hangs but are clipped to the impact beam in the door, The square clip/plate goes onto the control end, only goes on one way. that is the backer the seats against the door panel when you put the nut on the front side.

With what he said.  also do search on here, there are some pictures showing how it connects to door panel.

At the front near the top of the inner door, there should be a loop that the cable runs thru. This loop was NOT installed in all doors, so it is iffy if you have it. Maybe it depends on if you had an adjustable mirror from the factory or not.    :dunno:

Well, for what it's worth, here's what has transpired.  I emailed Year One.  After a couple days they responded with a near useless answer.  They said : The plate is as you guessed. It slips over the control prior to being
installed in the door panel. This keeps the control in position and
makes it so the bezel nut can be tightened.
I hope this helps.

It helped only a little.  No direction on how to orient that clip.

After mounting the mirror, I ran the cables between the outer skin and the window track.  I couldn't find a place to use the clips that came on the cables, so I used cable ties to route the bundle around the window toward the front of the door.  Pulled the control out the opening in the door and jammed that clip thing on.  I couldn't get it straight and couldn't get it back off.  Anyway, the boss ring on the bezel is thicker than the door panel, so the whole thing was loose.  So, I just stuff a little foam rubber between the panel and the bezel.

So, now it works.  Yippie-ki-yay.
