Challenger: 72 front grille vs 73/74 front grille
« on: November 05, 2010 - 11:16:04 PM »
Hey guys/gals,

I wondering if someone could answer a question that I have been trying to figure out for a bit.

I am wondering if their is a difference in the front grilles of the 72 challenger and the 73/74, mainly the lower section under the front bumper/top of the front valence. I've seen several 72 challengers with chrome trim on the top part of the front valence right under the bumper but haven't seen any upclose pictures if it is an actual grill or just a chrome molding. I haven't seen it on a 73/74 challenger.

Here are some pictures of what I am talking about. First picture is a Orange = 72, Blue = 74

Thanks for any help.

Molding was standard attached to the lower valance...if it's not there it has been left off.
There was someone reproducing at one time it but I rarely see it for sale.

Wade is right.  It was standard on all 72-74 Challengers.  Metro has it listed in thier cataloge...its been in there for years, but they have never made it.  They only make the grill moulding.  I saw a used one listed for sale on another site for $100 but it looked like it was in the same shape as mine.

It's held onto the front valance by three small philipse head screws.  Then some stamped steel captive nuts slide ontop of it so the plastic valance opening piece can be installed.  I just got done installing mine.  I can take some pics if you want.

Thanks, for all info guys.

Looks like it might take time to track one down if I would get one without it.

Thanks again.
