727 Kcickdown
« on: November 23, 2010 - 06:41:48 PM »
440, 727, shift kit, 2600 stall, 3:55's, Lokar cable.  Shifts from 1st to 2nd early and smooth.  From 2nd to 3rd, I have to be going 40 before it will shift.  It will down shift with no problem, maybe around 25-30 and then not want to go back into 3rd until I am back at 40.
Do I adjust my kick down cable or my kick down adjuster band?  Which way do I adjust?  Thanks!
Jason

Making it "longer" will make it upshif later and harder.

I know I should look in the manual when I get home later, but what is the difference between the kickdown lever and band adjuster?
Also, what would happen if the adjuster band was turned too far out?  What could I feel or notice from it being out of adjustment one way or another?  Thanks.

I posed a similar question.. & Terry's response

Thanks for bringing this up... I' just reviewed the service manual & it references tightening the adjuster to 72-inch pounds & then backing off 2-turns for the internal low-reverse band & 2 1/2 turns for the external kick down band (small block 727).... Are there any other static adjustments that could be made?      Seeing I don't have a inch-pound torque wrench is there a seat of the pants approach or do I need to find a wrench.
DO NOT back the kick down band off 2 1/2 turns. 1 1/2 turns at the most.
