Vin/Engine decoded question
« on: November 24, 2010 - 11:38:34 AM »
I been trying to find my build sheet from my car & while googling every different combo of my VIN I found a site that decodes vins. My question is, in the picture attached it shows "V8 383 CID 1-4BBL "B" (High Performance). What does the "B" stand for. Would this "B" be stamped on the block near the head? Example "B383"
My engine block does not have any VIN stamped by the oil pan, or a ID pad on there either. So I assumed the "B" stands for 1966 block. Thanks

no vin in the block usually means the engine was replaced under warranty.
The B blocks were the 350, 361, 383 and 400. Later the RB`s were released (Raised B) 440 426
F would be for 1970

An engine without a VIN stamp on the pad should still have the VIN pad.  It would just be left blank and would have the factory machine circles.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

i don't see a stamp ID pad anywhere near the oil pan. Drivers or passenger side.
Pre 1968 maybe
The numbers on the side of the block are 2468130-4

The ID spot close to the distributor says
B383
10  8  2

R

On the other side of the block by the head is a stamped "L"

My drivers door sticker say 11, 69
