Column shifter arm/handle
« on: November 02, 2010 - 11:14:34 PM »
The shifter arm on my column shift car needs to be rechromed since it is peeling. What I don't know is how to remove the black plastic handle on the end. Is it screwed  on in the center or pressed or glued on? I hesitate to try and remove it because I don't want to destroy it in the process.

Thoughts?

the plastic will not come off , you can polish the arm with fine steel wool or get a different one in better condition

Ok thanks. I guess it'll have to be a different one then since the chrome is peeling off and would need to be replaced.

Year One used to sell NOS auto column plastic shifter knobs, so apparently the two pieces come apart.

Does anyone know what the part number would be? Maybe someone makes replacements.
