8 3/4" Questions
« on: January 04, 2011 - 07:22:39 AM »
If I had a set of 741 gears with 29 spline for the pinion yoke would a 489 pinion flange fit?
I know unis are different.

Why I ask is I'm looking to spool a set of 3.73s in a 741 case and the only gears I can find have 29 spline whereas the std gears are 10 spline.

If so,I have enough parts to make this work.

And please don't suggest "just get a 489 case" because it's not that easy over here.
8.75 parts are thin on the ground and most sheep just go 9"

Looking forward to any info or ideas as mopar diff experts are pretty well non existant over here.

yes, 10 spline and 29 spline.. then big u joint/small u joint.  you will be able to installl the yoke on either, use the propper seal

Thanks Al.

By "proper seal" I assume you mean the correct one for a 741 case?

Which raises another question.

Are 741/742/489 pinion seals the same OD or different?

I believe the od is different, but not 100% sure, I could ask the parts store in a while for you, or maybe a member could look it up online and see. I do know I have transfered the yokes over back and forth from dif units and from course to fine spline

Thanks again Al :2thumbs:

Always a wealth of good info.

Don't worry about looking it up.

Now I know it can work I'll make it work.
