    Motor Oil Viscosity

    What's up Guys,,

    Just curious, I wanted to take a pool,  What Motor Oil Viscosity/Brand do you guys run in your engines? Also state if you change viscosity in the winter/summer and run a Zinc Additive.

    383 Stroker (496) Hydraulic Roller Cam so I don't run a Zinc Additive
    Castrol GTX 20w-50 All year round, But I don't do much winter driving.

    Currently running Vavoline racing 20-50 w ZDP. Ive always ran at least 15-40 diesel fleet stuff... and have run straight 50 in really hot weather. I gotta admit I go with the best available for the price when its "stock up" time.

    Castrol GTX 20w50, no zinc additive & no winter driving. It's basically a stock 318 (more or less).

    it really depends on how the engine was machined , if it is loose you need 20-50w  , if the brg clearances are tight 10-30 or 10-40

    Rotella T 15w-40 diesel with ZDDP additive. I don't drive the car much in the winter and it's in a heated garage so I don't change viscosities seasonally.

    Since you mentioned it, what are tight and loose bearing clearances? 
    Currently running the Valvoline Racing 20-50 or just the 50 in summer time (100+ in summer time).  I also run a bottle of zinc additive.

    Anyone run 20w-50 in the winter too? The temp around here is in the 30s-40s F,,,Would 20w-50 cause harm in this type of weather temperature?

    typically somewhere in the .0022- .0025 on the mains & .002 on the rods is tight

    Most performance flat tappet builds - 15/40 deisel, pisk your brand. I run Car quest which is valvoline, no additive.
    Most high performance flat tappet builds - 20/50 or straight 30 Valvoline racing (has high zinc-"not for street use")
    roller cams - 10-30 - any brand is fine.
