Any one use cap auto tubular rack and pinion
« on: December 02, 2010 - 11:48:50 AM »
Anyone use cap auto products, in particular their front tubular rack and pinion kit for 3500 bucks?
I was thinking I might try it if no one says other wise.

Long time no talk
I have heard of some breakage issues with Cap control arms so this may not be the best upgrade even thought the product is well designed

Ya, long time, I hope all is well. I am stuck way up north on the British Columbia/Alberta border in the forest at work.  Going to sneak out for a Roger Waters concert in Vancouver on the 10th of Dec.
Anyway, the guy I talked to there (the owner), says no problem for street strip use, was hoping some one else had one. My car is starting to twist apart on me, I spend more and more time in the spring welding it back together. Maybe next year I will tube chassis the car.
Its running well now, I put a 541 in it and now running an uncorrected 10.4 with 3.55 gears on pump gas.
I will find the 9's with it yet.

I talked to Mancini racing on the Cap K frame & he said they sell approx 1 / week & have had no complaints about them , they also said Ray the owner of Cap stands behind his products 100% & Mancini has been impressed with Cap . I mentioned the one failure I had heard about & he said the car had been back to Ray to find out what had failed & Ray took care of it but the return never came back through Mancini , it was a crack at the weld of a tubular control arm

So what would you recommend for a front end?

CAP looks to better engineered than the competition as you can retain the torsion bars & it steers properly , I liked it when I looked at it in Vegas & it makes sense so maybe that is the best one to use , I was just worried about the failure I heard about , Call Ray @ Cap & talk to him directly

I have the whole CAP system. I had a few problems with the initial instalation...BUT... Ray stepped up and helped with all my issues, then tweaked the e body system based off of my troubles. Ray is an upstanding dude.

Thanks guys, its not too shabby. I'm dying to get it on the road - this spring for sure.

The room/ clearance the the CAP system provides is great. It makes it easy to spend more money to fill up the space.
