70 383 timing mark ?

 Is the middle line with the hole on the timing mark 0 degree's?

It is in a bad place and my eyes aren't what they used to be.

Lotta different brands of timing chains.  You got a pic?  Cheap chain sets should be degreed in for accuracy. Major brands are usually dead on or within 1 degree.  distributor location is factored in for tdc timing.  you really need to read up or wait for a detailed post.

Sorry, the timimg mark over the balancer, not the timing chain.

The mark you use to time the engine.

On my cover the tab says 0 whee the hole is and +/- 10 deg up and down the scale.
