« on: December 27, 2010 - 11:06:07 AM »
Hello, I have found a cast iron bell housing for sale for a big block mopar for 125.00, how can I tell if it is the correct one for our 74 challenger w/833, also brewers has a new aluminum bell housing for 299.00, would it be better to buy the aluminum bell housing and will it hold up? Thanks Brent

the cast belhousing is for the 143 tooth flywheel , the alum is for the 130 tooth , do you have a flywheel yet ??

143 Tooth Flywheel is the 11" I think, and the 130 Tooth is the 10 1/2"....Flywheels are different as are the clutches...If mismatched, the starter won't even engage the flywheel...

If you get the cast, you will need a 318 "truck" 11" flywheel to make it work..If you buy the aluminum one, you will need a 10 1/2" 318 Car/truck flywheel...

the 318 flywheel is a 130 tooth generally , still count it so you need an alum belhousing , there is the 10.95 large clutch available for the 130 tooth so you do not give up anything with the smaller flywheel , McLeod is the 10.95" clutch I would use
