Tech question for you Net Flix people in the know!

I picked up a Sony Blue Ray player last weekend. It had wireless INTERNET and I have that all hooked up and downloaded the updates to it. My question is about Net Flix as they can stream to the player for movies. I was on their site and it didn't look like they had many movies listed. If I join can I download the variety like at the rental store or are you limited to the few they show on the web site? I know I'm way behind on the tech stuff. I don't want to join and be limited to just a few choices per month. 

Please HELP!

As a member of Netflix, you will have access to literally thousands of movies and TV programs. They are always getting new ones too. I have been a member for over a year now. My family and I tap into the Netflix library many times every week. I stream the movies through my iPad while I'm on the treadmill. My kids watch movies with their friends. I even have it hooked into a big screen TV at work where we watch old TV shows over the noon hour. With all this, I have never failed to find a new movie or show to watch.

Keep in mind that Netflix offers movies in two formats: instant/streaming and on DVD. Many of their movies are instant (which is the way I prefer it), but some are only available on DVD. With certain memberships, you can get a DVD/mailing option. You have access to all the instant movies whenever you want, but you can also build a que of your favorite movies on DVD. Netflix sends you the DVDs at no additional charge. The shipping is super fast and you can keep any DVD for as long as you want.

I haven't visited a Blockbuster or Hollywood Video ever since I found Netflix. It's soooo much easier and convenient this way. I won't get movies any other way.

I had it for a while, and really enjoyed it. They sent us a cd, which we just put into our nintendo Wii. I watched all kinds of movies from there site. Being a member, I could also watch movies on my laptop at anytime. I saw a commercial the other day where Blockbuster was starting to do the same thing. They are supposed to have new releases earlier than Netflix, by a couple of weeks. Don't know anything about their pricing, as I haven't checked into it yet. I say go for it, I think you will like it. Saves going to the movie store. You can also set it up to where if you have a favorite movie, you can put those into a spot so you don't have to search for it again.

I heard that Netflix is working on a deal where they may be able to get current box office movies before they come out on DVD. If it happens, that will be phenomenal.

Something else I really enjoy about Netflix is the many different ways in which you can use it. I stream Netflix through a Wii at the office over a wireless connection. It works great. I watch instant movies on my laptop from time-to-time. More often I steam movies through my iPad. For family viewing, we have a Blue Ray Player with built-in support for Netflix hooked up to our flat screen TV in the basement. The Blue Ray Player has built-in support for wireless, but I found that the streaming didn't work so well on that. I ended up hardwiring that one into our home network and it works great.

Can you manage your queue just though a Wii, with not computer connection?  I was thinking about setting this up for my Mom, but she doesn't have, or know how to use a computer.

Yes you can set it up with out a computer but you still need internet for the Wii to work. So you would need to have a modem/router set up to the Wii then you can stream netflix!

I have used netflix for about a year now and I absolutely love it! In my house I watch netflix in my family room through my Sony PS3. They came out with an update about a month ago so that you no longer need to have a disc in the PS3 in order to stream it. Now it is one of the apps built into the PS3. I signed up for the $10.99 a month plan which includes unlimited streaming and one blu ray/dvd at a time.

The great thing about netflix is that with the streaming you can watch on any computer(not older apple),Ipad, Iphone, and some other smart phones as well any where you want- as long as your connected to the internet! I can start a movie in California the night before I leave for Boston on my t.v. Then finish it on my laptop or Ipad on the plane or in a hotel or coffee shop.

The only downside I think about the netflix streaming is that it does not have every movie or tv show ready for instant streaming. Don't get me wrong there is an endless amount of content to view....but when your really in the mood for a title that is not available for streaming you have to wait for the disc to ship to you which on average takes about 2 days from the time I request it.

Thanks, we are getting my Mom a Wii for Christmas because she want to use ot for work outs with the Wii Fit.  She also asked me about Netflix before, and I told her she would need a computer in addition to internet access.

   Thanks for all the help folks!!!!!!!! We think we are going to give it a try after the first of thr year. I'm still torn rather we will use it enough but Nancy thinks we will. I guess you have to make the boss happy to make the house happy.

Remember the Wii is wireless only.  You have to purchase a separate adapter to plug a cable into it. 

The family went to visit the folks for Thanksgiving and I took my xbox360 which has Netflix setup.  My mother actually learned how to use the controller to get around in there and turn the unit on and off.  I have never seen her take to a modern device (she has problems texting with her cell phone)  I think she was first sad to see the kids leave, then the xbox/netflix and then me...

We signed up with Netflix about q month ago and we love it!  SO many moves and TV shows.  Our blue ray player won't work for Netflix but we have PS3, Wii and XBox, so we use one of those.  You can also hook your laptop up to the TV (if the TV is capable of accepting it) and view it through the computer on your TV.  For under $10 a month you really can get much more than your money's worth!  Most of the newer movies do have to be sent to you on DVD, but they come within 2 days and they give you a no change envelope to mail them back to them.  As soon as they get the DVD back they send the next one on the list. 
Besides, It is always a good idea to make the boss lady happy!
