Quarter glass fit to roof seal at top of travel

I have the factory service manual directions, but they are for 1970?, and my 74 does not have the rear vertical guide.  They must have cheaped out toward the end.
I followed the instructions step by step, BUT the glass as it approaches the top of its travel, the top fwd corner of the glass digs into the Metro SuperSoft rubber roof seal.  The only way to avoid this is to hold the glass out at the top as you finish rolling up the glass.   
To help the glass travel up the channel further without binding, I can hold the fwd end of the glass outboard, and the aft end inboard. This completely solves the problem.   BUT doing this leaves an even bigger gap at the aft lower corner.  And the fwd end of the glass is already pressing the outer horizontal belt seal completely flat, and the book says it should be lightly touching.  If I set the seal for lightly touching, the glass is so far inboard that it cannot even slide past the roof seal.
The attached pic shows the light shining thru the gap at the rear...I am considering filling this gap with sealant.
I set the vertical track for best position to help the glass roll up the entire way.  I can still tilt the glass to fit the door glass.

There are 3 attach points for the glass to regulator/vertical channel.  The forward-most square plastic slide that clamps the vertical metal channel, it clamps the channel real loosely.  A snugger fit with less slop would help.  This plastic block cannot be removed from the glass...its riveted on...
Has anyone removed this rivet, and shimmed the block so it is more tight against the channel???  Has this helped??  Seems for my setup this would help hold the glass in a better way to let the glass ride up the channel higher.
What is the best way to solve this??
The Metro seals were rolled so tight they are deformed and dont seal against the glass well where the seal was doubled over for packing.

I shimmed behind the square plastic block that acts as the fwd guide for the glass, took up all the slack, then tightly wrapped household doorbell insulated wire around the shims and under the block so the shims don't fall out.  This took out all the slop.  The glass follows the vertical guide now, and this change did help the glass to fit rubber seal at top of qtr  window travel.
I had the vertical guide adjusted in/out for best approach of the glass to roof seal.  I moved the channel for the roof seal outboard a little more to help eliminate the gap shown in the one pic.  Had to remove/loosen most of the channel screws to allow the channel to move over....the channel has a smaller arc than the roof unibody, so channel wants to twist inboard when its attach screws are tightened.  Had to jamb in wooden wedges to hold the roof seal channel in place, it still wanted to move inboard because of the channel twisting.
Still waiting for door glass parts then can fit everything together.

They eliminated the rear channel in 71 , I have had to mess with the later ones to get them lined up as well
