70 Challenger fender mounted turn signal indicators
« on: December 21, 2010 - 09:30:08 PM »
Does anyone have measurements for locating/installing these on a '70 Challenger?   Are they different for a '70 vs other years?

Thanks

There are two different locations in 1970.  I don't know of a date when it changed.  It is 11 P.M. here.  I'll get some measurements and pics for you tomorrow.

My car was built 9/12/69. These are the measurements I got. On the front I measured from the edge of the fender not the trim. Hope this helps maybe we can figure out what date it changed.

I just got home and was gone from dark to dark today.  I hate short winter days.  My SE has the indicators in the same location as yours' Matt.  I know it was built in 69.  I don't remember what month.  I would think that this was an early design location since the other one I have seen on 70's is in the same location as other years.  If I remember correctly, you could not get the indicators on a '70 car with the magnum hood.  I'll check with Barry and see what he knows about this.  Here are a few pics I took in the past about the indicators.  If you need more pics let me know.  I will be home for half the day tomorrow.

My pics are more crude than matts.  Matt if I get a good pic to you, would you be willing to draw the dimensions out like you did with your pic?

Thanks Matt.  I'll try to get a clean pics and good measurments tomorrow.  I did verify the availabilty of the indicators.  In 70 & 71 they were not available with the magnum hood.  It 72 - 74 they were available with the magnum hood.

My '72 had the fender mounted turn signals and a flat hood..They were mounted close to the hood gap (Orange fender picture)....

Once I installed the R/T (Rallye) hood, I know why they were moved out towards the fender (Yellow Fender Picture)...You can't see the passenger side sitting in the car when you have a Rallye hood and fender mounted turn signals mounted close to the hood...

That makes sence, is that the only 2 positions they were in? I'm only 5'8" and in my bucket seat I can't see the passenger side one  :roflsmiley:

Thanks Guys -  I appreciate the info.   I'm always amazed at when a question gets on a relatively simple matter it turns out it really isn't simple at all.....   I had no idea that they changed location mid-year.

It seems Mother Mopar's techniques in making cars back then was more art -- than science -- or certainly standardized practices.   ;)

Merry Christmas to all...

They wern't moved out with the Magnum or Rallye hood.  They were in the center in the early 1970 cars.  In the 1970 & 1971 cars you could not get the indicators with the Magnum or Rallye hood.  So far I have not seen the center mounted indicators on a car built in 1970.  They all have been 1969 builds.
