340 short block / rotating assembly
« on: May 17, 2011 - 01:05:27 PM »

Got a 340 that I just pull from my 72 Roadrunner. It's a forged crank, cast piston rotating assembly. Internally balanced. Early 71 casting.

Has a mild cam. No grind number on it, so I'd assume it's stock. Lifters are still matched up. I'll also include stock oil pan, windage tray and pick-up. Timing cover not included.

The block is 30 over and the bores look to be in excellent condition. Cross hatching looks fresh. Got some carbon build-up on the pistons, but otherwise it looks like it was assembled yesterday.

Motor ran well with reasonable power. No smoke or oil consumption.

I pulled the motor for two reasons. First, it had a slight harmonic vibration above 2000 rpm. Second, the driver side corner of the block is broken off and the transmission dowel is held in by JB Weld. That was all the excuse I needed to build a new stroker short block.

I'm basically pricing it as a rotating assembly with accessories. Think of the block as a handy carrying case. I will completely disassemble the motor and scrap the block on request.

$500 OBO picked up locally (Evansville, IN)
