Remote mirror control mounting
« on: May 24, 2016 - 12:43:36 AM »
My drivers mirror remote wants to fall out of the door panel to the inside.   What am I missing to secure it to the door panel?

Looks like your missing a square thin plate that slide over indents on the threads. That plate is on the inside of the door panel and the threaded chrome nut is on the outside (interior side) of the door panel.  My chrome mirror had a six sided thin nut and my painted mirror had the thin square plate. I'm guessing either should work to hold the mirror in place.

Thank you everyone!  So just to be clear,  I will remove the door panel and install the square washer from the inside?   The washer engages on the threads?  Then reinstall door panel

yes from memory, door card off, put the square washer onto the remote control, poke it through the door card and then put the retaining nut onto the control to secure it

I am working on same issue. I am not having much luck with the square plate. It doesn"t tighten down for me. I like the flat nut idea, even though it is probably not correct. I have seen a locking washer to go into the keyway cut into the panel. But no one here is talking about it...different year  maybe? Mine is a 72 Cuda. Which nut is correct? The flat one or the cone shaped one? Details Details. Thanks, Jeff

the square plate pushes down on to the threaded area and lock by its own pressure. it not n=meant to thread on because of the tab.

Thanks for the response. What I meant by " not tightening down" was the chrome nut after installing square piece and installing through hole. I tried using the stamped nut ( see above) behind the panel and then tightening down the chrome nut, it was still loose. I ground down the lip on the back side of nut a little. Then the chrome nut tightened nicely. The chrome nut I think was aftermarket which I now think was my problem all along. The square plate would probably work now but the nut worked so well I'm leaving it. SSSHHH don't tell anyone

Right, those backers are some times a  PITA to get on let alone tightening the nut and making it all nice with the door panel. potential cross threading nightmare.
