HELP w/ problem installing boots on custom plug wires
« on: January 02, 2011 - 01:22:07 PM »
 :stomp: :pullinghair:
I bought a set of accel custom plug wires and am not impressed!  The crimp tool(if you can call it that) is a piece of sh*#.  I had to spend $29 to get a decent crimp tool that I will only use once.

Anway, next problem.
I cannot get the boots to slide over the wires without extreme pushing.  I have used liberal amounts of the lube that came in the kit, but have yet to get one boot on.  It warns not to stretch plug wires too much or you can damage them, but there is no way to get around it.  The holes in the boots are very small.  I even thought about using a drill bit too enlarge them, but don't want too screw them up.  I am at the end of my patience rope!  Help.

I have had to soak them in hot water before to make them more pliable.

Not sure about the supplied lube, but I remember using clear silicone lubricant to help them slide down.   I also remember always having problems with them staying in place and being very happy when I eventually changed them.  I hope you have better luck.

My crimp tool cost me 100 bucks (msd)  but before I use it, I put dawn dish soap on the wire and the inside of the boot. works every time for me with no issues

I too just used lube, vasolene. Those wires ,well.... I haven't had much luck with. Lift the hood and night with the engine running and you will see my point. I like MSD wires.
