Problem with GVWR and Payload
« on: January 13, 2011 - 03:36:13 PM »
I hope someone can help me with these weight "problems". Not really cuda/challenger problems but mopar of course  :)

I know that GVWR is Gross vehicle weight rating that includes car + passengers + cargo. So, i have a 2005 dodge ram with 9000lbs GVWR. The truck itself weights about 7700lbs so it leaves 1300lbs for passengers + cargo.
So if i can put only 1300lbs on my Heavy Duty mega big truck, that really sounds like a joke. So then i find this thing called payload and its around 2600lbs. How can it be 2600lbs if GVWR is 9000? Should the GVWR be 7700+2600?

Someone explain this to me?   :clueless:

I Can't explain it really, but you can legally pull/tow 9k with that truck. Your loaded weight in the truck including cargo in the bed can't be more than 12K...You might contact your local DMV. :2cents:

Here you can pull 7716lbs(3500kg) with this truck, the car trailers are here limited to that. Fifth wheel is also banned because its not e-approved (europe regulations ****)  or something like that. Dodge sells only small cars here, like caliber and 300C. Not any trucks at all so the are no local Dodge dealer that can help.

But the GVWR issue is really stupid, i can put more stuff legally on my 2WD small Toyota hilux  :roflsmiley:

Go online to to a Dodge Dealership here in the USA, or find a owners manual. :2cents:
