1970 'Cuda Gas filler neck color??
« on: April 03, 2013 - 08:31:37 PM »
I'm getting ready to install the gas tank filler neck and need to know what color the flange that is under the license plate is supposed to be.  The previous owner removed and cleaned it before I bought the car.  Is it the tail panel color, body color or bare metal?  Also, the filler tube inside the trunk.  Same question.  I assume it's supposed to be body color as it was probably already installed when the trunk was painted, but I'm not sure.  Lastly, the trunk latch mechanism.  Same question.  I know the bolts that attach it are body color but what about the mechanism.  It seems the ones I've seen are bare metal but I'm not sure if that is correct.   I've attached pictures of the items I'm concerned about.  Thanks for your help.   :feedback:

Somebody?  Anybody?  All you have to do is pull down your license plate and look and then open your trunk and look.  Help please??

Mine was not painted. I'm betting none are, especially around where you fill up. Don't need paint chips getting in the gas.

On my Challenger ( if that helps? ) the filler neck looks to be a galvanized or zinc plated finish, sort of like the fuel tank?

I think they are leaded. Supposed to prevent static electricity.

Okay, thank you regarding the filler neck.  Agreed, no paint.

What about the trunk lock mechanism?  Bare metal, painted or zinc plated?

When I put mine in it's not painted and it looks like a zinc finish.

Trunk latch goes in just as pictured. It's true that often times the bolts were body colour, sometimes it's even been documented that the bolts have been a different body colour presumably from the car before or after on the assembly line.
