3.92 rear ratio ?
« on: January 17, 2011 - 05:23:36 PM »
I don't have an E-body yet but have several found working on getting the money . My question is do you guys with 3.92 and I heard theres a 3.73 available, do you find 1 st gear maybe to low? Your overal ratio in 1st is like 10.5-1. I have an idea that I'd like to use the earlier 3.09 1st gear A-833 and a set of 2.94 rear gears. Kind of like a poor mans overdrive, be like a 3spd plus overdrive. What do you think? Thanks Jed

Jed, the chances are you will most likely buy an EBody with 3.23 gears or if you buy some small block performance machine you may end up with 3.55 gears. If you end up with an auto then your best bet is to put in the A833OD unit as they can be got for a reasonable price. That way you will most likely end up with a reasonable final OD ratio. Don't be like me though and make sure your cam is reasonably mellow if you are looking for a cruiser with tall gearing. Mine is still burbling and bucking around at 1900RPM but it sure goes when one pushes the skinny pedal. I use 3.73 with a Passon Hemi OD 0.8 ratio.

Hope this helps

Thanks I could live with 3.23s but not lower than that. I looking at 400hp when i get what i want so the cam shouldn't be to bad. I definately want a cruiser not a drag car.
