heater box removal
« on: January 24, 2011 - 09:44:14 PM »
Can anyone give me help on removing my heater box in 72 Cuda?  I have the dash out and the heater box is in pretty bad shape.  Just barely pushed on the front and crunched it.  Don't want to do anymore unnecessay damage.  Visually can't see any screws or bolts to remove it.

Thanks

Should be 3 bolts around the blower moter on are on the engine side of the firewall that hold in the box. There is also a j-bolt that holds the front of the box to the cowl.  It is accesed from inside of the pass side vent.

Good luck.

If its an A/C box the box itself has threaded studs that poke through the firewall that attach with nuts on the engine compartment side of firewall.  There are 3 nuts around the blower motor then 3 or 4 more nuts kinda evenly spaced across the firewall from the blower motor area over towards the drivers side of the firewall.  Then there is a hanger support bracket on the dash frame that connects to the front of the box behind the glove box insert.  I just went through replacing a heater core in an A/C box on my 70 Cuda and it also took me a bit to figure out how it mounted.  Good luck!

I think there are some one-way push through plastic fastners you might have to cut off flush with the firewall too.

The plastic pins that are visable in the engine compartment hold the firewall insulation in place.  They have nothing to do with the heater box.  By the way...save those pins.  The ones that come with the new insulation are not correct looking.
