Well, I'll go against the flow a little and say I actually like the picture of the Challenger better, I think it looks good without the white. I think because the color is light it looks better with the black highlights, the white highlights seem like they wash out the color even more. But maybe that's just me, or maybe its the fact that the picture of the Challenger is a better photo to start with.

As far as the value of the car, I don't think keeping it this original color is going to help you much. It's definitely different, and if it came to sale time I'm pretty sure you'd find more people that didn't like it than did. So, at that point, having your car painted an nice common high impact color would probably be better. But I would totally consider painting my car that color if it was original. It's different, and I think set up right, like say with a black side stripe, black rear spoiler and maybe even a blacked out hood it would be a good looking car.

:iagree: With everything 100%. Also another stripe combo might be the dark green (like Jackies car) versus the black, the black may be a bit too much contrast? But with a white interrior I think this would make a nice and unusual (in a good way) cruiser. The white stripe and top definately wash out IMO.

I definitely see your points about a more contrasting color for the stripes, etc. but for me I think its going to be somewhat an all or nothing deal with the colors.  If I don't go back 'original' I'm probably not going to worry about how close to original it is at that point.  That may sound a little stupid (I've been accused of having a few ideas that qualified as that before!), but the color would probably be the first thing I'd change if I change anything.  And like I said previously, once I've crossed that line I'll probably jump across it with both feet and consider swapping out the 318 & auto as well.  For me, the only attraction the original color combo has is that it 1) is the original combo and 2) that its very unusual and I'd be swimming against the tide by staying with it rather than go with colors I along with most everyone else like better which include: triple black, Sublime, Plum Crazy, Petty Blue, maybe others.  And I think I could go with the current white stripes, top & interior with any of these except the triple black of course.

So does anybody like the color combo of the Cuda above or is there a reason so few of these were sold with this 1973 only color in the first place?

thanks again for the input so far, Jim

I really like both combos but I think the Challenger looks a little plain being as it not a real popping color.I think the white stripe and roof of the `cuda really set it off nicely. My opinion-if I was looking to keep the car close to stock looking instead of modified with options, changing colors, adding wheels I would paint it the original color as it is rare and would stand out in the crowd of all the Plum Crazy,Limelight,Hemi Orange ones.

I'm liking it more & more.

The Challenger looks wrong - a) because it's a frowning '73, and b) the black is too contrasting and makes it look ugly and ill thought out. It looks good on some colours - just not this one.

The 'Cuda on the other hand looks great. It being a lighter colour with the white set's it off nicely. Not too bold. Nothing that smacks you in the face & says "Love it or hate it". Just a nice subtle colour styling that is very easy on the eyes. Neither colour tries to over-power the other - unlike the Challenger.

Thanks guys, this has been helpful.  Not that there's been any kind of consensus, but the wildly different opinions here mirror my own thinking on the matter.  The Tim Allen part of me wants to just go wild with the car, the old guy that grew up with these cars thinks its cool a 38 year old car has made it this long relatively unchanged and should be preserved even though it isn't a big block shaker hood car.  So I'm going to have to decide at some point but in the meantime I'm sure I'll go back & forth like I've done since picking up the Barracuda.

Thanks again, Jim
