Installing 5 speed hump
« on: January 21, 2011 - 03:25:06 PM »
Hello all, getting ready to install my 5 spd hump from Keisler and wanted to know if I needed the trans in place for this or can I just line up the hump and go for it?
Is there plenty of forgiveness?

I am in the same process but I may go either with a A833 or the Keisler if my finances permit.  I posted the question awhile back and here is the link:

http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=74156.0

I chose to go with the factory measurements that were provided by another member because I don't want to touch up the bottom by waitng for the transmission.  I figure if there is any adjustments to be made when I get to the transmission installation I will make the neccesary changes to the hole if needed.

I was also told to leave the floor pan sheet metal that go over the transmissio cross member as that is how it came from the factory.

Good Luck and I will post pictures when I get a chance.

Thank you for the info rahmson, Thanks for that link.
Have you installed yours yet?
Now to cut out the Auto console brackets and shifter, anybody needing to go automatic floor?
I don't want to mess up the brackets and shifter.
Should I cut the brackets from the hump first or cut the floor out with brackets in place?
Getting the measurements for cutting of the floor might be more difficult with the brackets in place.
Don't want to screw up such a nice floor, lol.

I am welding it in today.  The AMD hump needed some persuasion and I had to add a flange to the drivers side because it was not long enough to reach the floor.

As far as getting the automatic bracketry out of the way you will need to grind it off at the edges being careful not to dip into the hump and grinding through the hump/floor.  Don't try to grind it far enough to make it loose and hope to bend/break the remainder.  I got a small hole because I became impatient.

Fit your hump to the contours of the floor as close as you can and then mark the floor at the edge of the 4 speed hump all around.  Draw a line inside that line equal to the flange on the new 4 speed hump and cut it to that line.

I will have some pictures soon and will send them if I can get the site to accept them.

Thanks again for the help.
Are you going with a Tremic or stock 4speed?

I really want to put the 5 speed in but I also have to be realistic with the budget.  I am building the car to accept either and basically any other bolt in choices as I go along.  I am going to integrate sub frame connectors, front tower supports and torque boxes that will help any car but as far as power plant? Maybe a Hemi but I do have a 340 and a 440 I could use instead.
When I get to those pieces I will make the decision then.
