It is an electrocoating where the car is dipped and energized to get a coat of primer applied 100% over the entire body. Which unless the body is perfect and there is no need for and repair or bodywork its a waste of money. Since it has to come off in the area that are being fixed. You will need a warm dry place to store the car as you work on it. If you dont have that then e coat it

That would work well for all of the hidden places like in the frame rails and rear inner fenders.

Does it actually look like primer or is it a shiney finish like what comes on the reproduction metal.

If shiney, do you have to rough it all up before painting?

All primers need to be ruffed up for paint to mechanically bond to it. There are sealers out there were no scuffing is required but i dont trust em.

So is the e coating shiney like the reproduction metals?

If you have to scuff up the paint, how do you get to hard to reach areas like the holes in the trunk lid, etc.?

I would assume that the e coating works as a rust inhibitor since it goes throughout the vehicle.

Most of the repro pieces and panels come E-Coated. It's basically a semi gloss primer. You do have to scuff it to paint over it. Quite a bit of my car is E-Coated.
