Bumper bracket fabbing
« on: January 27, 2011 - 03:08:52 PM »
I am getting ready to put on my bumpers, and i want to suck them in closer to the car like the 70 style challenger. I know a number of you have made this alteration. Without buying the the 70 style brackets, has anyone documented the fabbing of the brackets, and how much to shorten them. The front looks fairly easy to change, probably just sliding the rails in further and drilling new holes. The rear brackets may take a bit more work. Any measurements would be helpful or a full blown engineering diagram would also be great.

That far?  I was thinking it looked like 3/4" would do the trick.

Just redrilling your front ones wont work, the inner half bracket will hit the frame rail. You will need to cut the inners and alter the bend. Maybe you could move it in a little, but not as far as the 70-72 ones.

On the rear, the bend is completely different.

I just got the front and rear brackets from a 70-72 because my time was worth more than what the parts cost. Easy to find them when I did it.

Your quite welcome.
Glad I was able to help out a little

The back bumper brackets?.............yea, those might suck, though I'm sure someone here has already altered them and can provide the remedy.
Good luck dude

That was what i was thinking also. I have seen the 70 style brackets around. Maybe i will ask around and see if i can finda set.

Are you getting new bumpers? FYI, your front will fit the 70-72 brackets, but on the rear the 73-74 bumber holes are in the wrong spot so you need the 70-72 bumper.

No new bumpers for now. They just need a good cleaning and buffing. Down the road aways i will probably have them re-chromed or replaced.
