doorglass alignment question
« on: January 25, 2011 - 12:06:23 PM »
I installed the driverside doorglass today and ran into a problem. It seems the glass has to come in a bit more at the rear top side. The guiderail however, allows no in-out adjustment at the top bolt and the lower adjustment is at its max.  It also seems the lower front side has to come in a bit more, so that creates a problem.... can`t bend a window....  I can`t find a problem with the roofseal either. I did use all rubberseals that were in the car originally... could it be the glass is in correctly, but doesn`t seal to the glass everywhere due to age/ware?  anyone had this problem before?

My super bee has this problem. It got better after I put the door strips in (whiskers?). I also found that after I readjusted the door and got it aligned perfect, my glass situation got way better.

It's still not perfect and I'll be watching this thread. This is one area no one ever seems happy with.

My Challenger has alignment issues too and as far as I can tell, they have never been apart.

I do still need new catwhiskers, so that might help a bit. The door alignment is pretty close to perfect, so I won`t touch that.  The gap is not like an eagle could fly through, but it won`t be watertight either... I wonder how watertight these cars were when new...?  It just seemed strange to me the glass has these gaps diagonally  :clueless: I don`t know what it was like before the restoration... never payed attention.

Thanks Barry for the link.  I already used it as a guide when installing the glass.  :2thumbs:

I put a small body shim behind thevtop bolt on the rear track to help push the glass over on my car. I know it's not right but it helped.

That's a good idea. I've done that on so many other things for a nice fit, shoulda thought of that. Having them line up wrong is just aggrevating. Plus it doesn't seem right to have a car that's nearly perfect in every way but has this awful problem.
