Exhaust manifold color
« on: March 02, 2016 - 11:39:23 PM »
I'm curious to know the correct color that exhaust manifolds were from the factory on the T/A.

I've seen various images but I am not sure which is correct. I would like to restore my manifold as it looks a little rusty and I believe the engine bay would look a lot better with it addressed.

I was put into Jet Hot coatings but a friend of mine who restores Fords. He swears by them and says that they tend to never rust again after the treatment. Have any of you used them?

A color chart is available here: http://www.jet-hot.com/gallery/

Can anyone suggest what they believe to be closest to original color?

Thanks in advance.

They were never treated or painted from the factory. They were put on the motor as bare cast pieces and they the motor was painted orange. 95% of the orange paint burns off and the manifold rusts right away....FROM THE FACTORY.

Myself I have them ceramic coated "cast grey" then follow the above process, that way when the orange paint burns off they don't rust.

I use Fireball Coatings here in Ontario.

Allan,

Thank you. I checked your website and I was very impressed. I saw the AAR which is a very close equivalent of my T/A. I saw the orange overspray on your headers and I had wondered about that. I'm not planning a frame off resto at this stage but your project has a lot of good info that I should be able to refer to I think.

Thanks for your help.

I never claim my work to be anything near 100% OE correct, but I sure try to make them look accurate using all different types of paints and methods :2thumbs:
