Vinyl Top Info Needed
« on: February 03, 2011 - 06:21:14 AM »
Hey guys,

Spring is just around the corner and I am starting to get the inch to gather some parts for the challenger.  I would like to start by putting a vinyl top back on my car.  Currently it is painted and looks great but I think the vinyl would make it pop. So....two questions...

1.  Where is the best place to get a NEW NOS vinyl top (black)?
2.  Is anyone making the trim pieces needed for the base around the rear window and the pieces for the A pillars?  Or...Will I have to find used ones?

Thanks...

  Lets ask this first....
Did this car come with a vinyl top?
The reason for asking is I would never put a vinyl top on a car that didn't come with one. :2cents:
They are a dirt and mosture trap!!! Many cars with original tops have problems under that vinyl and under the trim for it. My purple car for example has bubbling under the vinyl and trim that will have to be fixed. My purple car will get a new top but my orange car (that never had one) will never get one, no matter how nice it would look.
Trim parts I don't think are re-popped yet. If you go for it the used trim can be polished to a like new finish. Just find a nice set to start with.

The roof under the vinyl was never painted from the factory.  That didn't leave you much protection if water found its way under the top.  Since these cars aren't generally used as daily transportation anymore...and the fact that your roof is now painted, you won't have any problem with moisture under the top.  The roof of my car was 100% rust free when I took the origonal vinyl top off.

Legendary sells a really nice vinyl top with the correct grain pattern.  The stainless trim is NOT repopped but nice origonals are not hard to find.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the responses.  My roof is good...the car was totally stripped down to the bare metal in 2005 and the roof was good.  It originally had a vinyl roof and I believe it would look great with it back on....

I will take a look at legendary and try to locate the trim pieces....

Thanks...
