Flexplate removal
« on: February 03, 2011 - 05:36:43 PM »
Hi,
can you please advice about safe removing the flexplate from the crankshaft.  I removed the 6 bolt and I can spin the flexplate around the crank but it doesn't pop off  :banghead: :banghead:   I want reuse the crank so I wouldn't make mistakes.

it should come off easy,,you may need to pry it alittle,,even a large puller may help but I have never had that problem  with the flex plate that screw driver didnt cure with a little pressure to pop it off,,and if need be a little sanding around the outer edge before reinstalling

the outer edge of the cranck seems to be a little bit deformed.  This should be the cause.  I was concerned to grind it off.  I wil try to post a picture.

Unless there is a large deformation to the crank don't take a grinder to it. A flat, fine mill file should provide enough bite to clean up a burr. Obviously, keep the file as flat to the journal as possible and go easy. Hide the hammers from whoever worked on it last! :2cents:

I had to use a puller to remove the flexplate. You can see the outer edge status in this pic.  Do you still think I just need to clean up the burr without a grinder  before resinstalling it ?
