Frame Connectors
« on: November 29, 2004 - 08:10:15 PM »
I got a set from mancini racing and they are marked for 70-74 E body..i trimmed off the 2 1/4 inches on the one side of the rear plate they require for challengers and they dont seem to come close...when they slide over the frame in the rear they aim right over the torsion bar????
It say to bolt up the front 1st but I would have to try to bend them over to reach the rear frame???

anyone have experience at this?

Are you sure your frame is not bent?
I have the same set for my Barracuda and have only lined them up to see how they will mount and everything looks fine on mine.

Hey 8 Pack, I don't know if this will help you or not, but when I installed mine, I aligned them just to the outside of the welded in torsion hex about 3/4 inch or so, just left enough room to weld it in. I did my own but I would think alighnment would be similar. Here is a step by step photo gallery of my install, I realize your's won't protrude through the floor, but I wanted to get the stiffest possible installation out of it. Hope you get it worked out.

how do you like those P6P?  I dont know if you race your car or not, but what kind of difference did they make as far as street driving?  was it worth it?  what does the carpet look like in your rear floorboard?  I've been thinking about doing it, and I would take the weld in, through the floor 2x3 steel box route like you did if I do it.

The ones i have cant be for my car.......On the mancini style they are bolt in....even whe i slide them over the rear part of the frame they dont even go up the whole way...they hit with only half the part of the flange wrapping around the frame?

Maxcuda, I haven't ran it yet but talking to a few others who have done this this way, they claim it is much stiffer where they are part of the floor and the frame. The rear becomes a continuation of the frame if you can see the pictures good enough, if you want, I have much better pictures that show more of the install and could send them to your personal e-mail. OneBadHemi's is similar but I believe he even did more to his, you may want to ask him about it too. I'm into the whole job about 50.00 for the materials and they took about 6 hours each to fab up and install. They are .125 2X3's then I purchased a small amount of 2" strap material to tie it in in the front to make it a bit more ridgid. It was a hell of a job but I'm sure I will be glad I did it this way. As far as the carpet goes, I haven't got to that part yet but plan on just fitting it around the rails as best I can.

8 Pack,  :dontknow:  I am not sure how the bolt ons should fit, I haven't ever tried to install any but if they are fitting as poorly as you say, I would call Mancini and  find out if there was a mistake made in what they sent you. I would think they should fit snuggly and shouldn't be that hard to install. There has to be someone else who has installed these bolt ons and can show you pics or something of how they did theirs.

Hi P6P,
Thank you for the pics on the frame connectors. Nice detail! I bought the frame connectors
that Auto Rust Technicians sells. They are very similar to yours but made of 2x2 square. I don't
have them installed yet. Your cut of the floor looks real professional. I'm hoping mine turns out
that good!

Thanks MtStBigblock, you must be from the north west huh? Welcome to the site! If your frame rail connectors are 2" square, they may not need to protrude through the floor like mine, not sure though. I made a mistake in the thickness on the post above, it is suppose to be .125" not .025", (I changed it though) that would be about as strong as a beer can! Good luck, keep us posted on your progress and have you got any pictures, we all love pictures here!
