727 TRANY
« on: February 10, 2002 - 04:16:11 AM »
i just bought a 71 challenger with a 727. i have aproblem with the shifting. it shifts fine from first to second, but it slips going into third. it dosn't have the kickdown linkage on it. i don't know if that has an affect on it or not. is there an adjustment i can make to correct this or does it need rebuilding? if it does need rebuilding i need to know where to get a manual.

Get a factory service manual for info on rebuilding & adjustments.  It will not shift correctly without the kickdown linkage on the trans unless it has a full manual valve body in it & will not shift on it`s own.  You will do damage to the trans without the kickdown as well.  Install the kickdown & try adjusting the bands you may not have to rebuild it  ;)
