Noob from the Pocono's
« on: January 31, 2012 - 12:55:23 PM »

After doing a few Google searches recently on various things, I've come across this site numerous times, figured I should join up!

I own a 73 'Cuda, this was my dad's car that we built together over the years, a couple years ago now he passed away from a 12cm mass on his Liver :(  When things took a downward turn, the motor was out getting freshened up with the builder.  Unfortunately, he wasn't able to see it back together with some of the new parts (larger bore and a lil hotter of a Cam).  Here's some details about the car and motor:

  • 73 'Cuda - The car was fully restored when we purchased it and had been in 2 magazines and won 3 best of shows at the Mopar Nationals.
  • I believe it was repainted the original color - Basin Blue - and has a Black Vinyl Top
  • Art Morrison Ladder Bar Setup
  • Sub-Frame Connectors
  • Custom NHRA Legal Roll Cage
  • Dana 60 Rear w/4.10 Gears IIRC
  • QA1 Coilovers in the rear, Koni Shocks up front
  • Boyd Coddington Custom F-09 Billet Wheels (18x8 F / 18x10 R)
  • BFG Drag Radials for the rear (295/35/18) and BFG KDW for the front (225/45/18)
  • ^Going to change to Nitto 555R Drag Radials (305/35/18) and Nitto NT05 (245/40/18) since it's time for tires now.
  • 'Cuda AAR Rear Spoiler and Hemi Duster Hood Scoop fitted to the 'Cuda Dual Scoop Hood (which Im not a big fan of to be honest..)
  • Also has the Hood Pins with the wires lol

Onto the good stuff, the motor!
  • Indy 500ci package - Blueprinted with our motor builder, thankfully so too! (took 3 cranks to get a good one..)
  • Iron Block, Bored slightly further then the Indy Package - 4.42 Bore/4.15 Stroke, 11:1 CR
  • Indy 440-SR Aluminum Heads
  • Indy Single Plane 440 Intake Manifold
  • Comp Cams 23-631-5 Mech Flat Tappet Cam.  In/Ex Duration at .050 = 256/266.  Lift In/Ex = .550/.570
  • 1.6 Ratio Roller Rockers, Solid Lifters
  • Holley 850 Double Pumper that I machined the Choke Box off of
  • Trans Depot open 1" Spacer
  • MSD Pro Billet Distributor (1 Light Silver and 1 Blue Spring, 20* at 1K RPM and ~36 Total Timing)
  • MSD 6AL Box, MSD HVCII Coil
  • Firecore 50 8.5mm Wires, Champion RC9YC Plugs @ .040
  • Griffin Aluminum Radiator
  • Hedman Hussler Headers - 2" Tubes, 3.5" Collectors
  • Custom Dual 3.5" Exhaust, Borla XR1 Mufflers, no Cats.
  • Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch
  • G-Force T56, Custom Aluminum Driveshaft
  • Gas tank was modified to add a sump to the bottom w/ 1/2" Bung on the rear for the fuel feed
  • Aeromotive A2000 Fuel Pump w/custom return style fuel system
  • Mallory Dual Feed Rail with regulator
  • Edelbrock Water pump

I own a tuning company for 4 banger cars mostly, specializing in Subaru's and Cobalt SS', but I've worked on Mopar's my whole life with my dad.  My company builds custom turbo kits and tunes most new cars.  It was nice to play with this car again and go back to a more simple way of tuning a car!  Im supposed to be tuning a car we just built this weekend at a dyno shop we use in Pottstown, PA, I think I will take this car down and see what it puts down!  I ran it this fall at Englishtown and ran a 12.1 @ 122 setup as you see in the pics.  That was the first time I've driven it myself at the track and only got 2 passes in.  Im pretty confident I can knock a few more tenths off with a couple more runs.  I also have a set of real Slicks for the car for the track this year, I believe they are 30" tall?  Does that sound right?  Ill have to measure them when I get home tonight and report back on that one. lol.

Some pics:

Ill take some pics of the interior this afternoon and post them up.  Pretty basic inside except for the cage.  Just have a Alpine CD Deck and Alpine Type R 6x9's w/Denon 4 Channel Amp on them.

That's a sweet piece! I like the way the colour, roof and wheels come together, not to mention the serious wedge in the hedge.

Welcome to the site!  Your 'Cuda looks very nice & I checked out your YouTube video of the Subaru...Looks like you have a nice appreciation for cars with speed going for them! :lol2: :grinyes:
On a side note, have you ever dyno-tuned any 3/S's before (3000GT VR-4's or a Stealth R/T Turbo)?  I saw that you own/operate a tuning shop that specializes in Subaru's & others, so I'm just curious if you have an all-wheel drive dynamometer at your disposal.

I can get on a AWD dyno and his rates are pretty reasonable!  What do you plan on tuning the car with, DSM Link?

Oh, I was just curious because I can't imagine there are too many notable tuners around a 300-mile radius of me...Personally, I probably wouldn't be getting mine dyno-tuned for quite some time as I'm still on the "fixing up" stage with my R/T TT.
