Anyone familiar with Tags found in back seat? 4" x 7/8"
« on: May 26, 2011 - 07:32:26 PM »
Found a pair of small metal tags, about 4 x 7/8" in back seat of car.  I am not familiar with these and the numbers don't correspond to the familiar VIN or fender tag codes.  See link to photobucket for what the tags look like:

Numbers are:

2942638-B
LSI M 13685 3289

Is anyone familiar with these types of tags and able to decode this?  The car has a replacement VIN and the drive train is not original.  Nothing on cowl or radiator support, and no fender tags or build sheets.

They are just part identification tags, and don't corespond with vin numbers. However they are date coded.

I have found a total of twelve in my car.

Check out this site for more information on the tags. http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/dateCodes101-2.shtml

Do you have a state replacement VIN or was the VIN tags changed on the car?

The car has CA replacement VIN and has obviously been pieced back together, so not like it is ever going to have any significant originality.  That was reflected in the purchase price, and gave me the freedom to make the car whatever I wanted without hurting the originality or value.

On the back seat tags, I ran these by Barry Washington, and he identified them as having a build date of July 30, 1971, so they are most likely out of either a 72 Cuda or Challenger.  Suspect the back seat came from the same donor as the rallye cluster & dash, which is from a 72-74 model based on the cluster.  The buckets and front door panels are the early 1970 version before the mid-year changes.
