e body fan switch help needed
« on: February 20, 2011 - 10:02:31 PM »
this one may be a stretch but i hope someone can help. a previous owner removed the fan switch in my 71 barracuda ( standard gauges),i wound up have 2 complete bezels with all the switches. one says (cool  temp  warm) on the temp switch and the other just says warmer with an arrow pointing to the right and thats the same one in my 71. so i took the switch out of that one but the problem is i only found 3 wires (that were cut and capped :pullinghair:)one light green ,one dark green and a black with white stripe, but the switch out of the same bezel as mine has a 4 pin fan switch , the other one has a 3 pin fan switch but its from a different year (i think 74). i guess i have to use the 3 pin switch since there are only 3 wires right? if so i am not sure where which color goes since the plug/plugs were cut off. i am going to post a few pics of the switches. any help would be great. thanks c/c

My dashboard is fully mocked up on a wooded stand with a complete wiring harness with tail lights and power window motors. Spare ignition and turn signal switches are also plugged in.  12v is supplied by a power supply and lets me test all of my lights, radio, etc.     I just tested my wiper motor yesterday before installing it in my car for the final time.

You can see it on page 10 of my resto thread at the bottom.

very cool, i am going to check out your resto thread. i have another situation ,i was getting ready to install the ac heater box and found this little rubber (plug/vent?) in the box and cant figure out where it goes. there is an extra hole on the firewall next to the lower box drain holes but there are no screw holes in the firewall. i am pretty sure one side of the vacuum line goes to the box, but not sure where the other side goes to. i am going to post a pic.

The hose goes to the vacuum fitting on the manifold.

Until you find one at a swap meet or someone starts making them, I would use a floor plug of the same size and just stick a vaccum hose through it.    The factory rubber plug had that hose molded into it.

You could also try to make one (close enough)  starting with a big rubber stopper from a glass container from a company lab.  Drill a hole for the hose the use a grinder to finish the shape and lip to keep it in the metal.
