I kinda like the idea a previous posted made about a "spring from the h'ware store sorta "BETWEEN" the stout strength of the OEM OC and 'nuthin'"
Thats all you need IMO. Any spring in the stock position will keep it on the floor. I think SD means a spring attached in such a way that it pulls the pedal back up off the floor.
. . . Not going to run the overcenter spring since its too strong to run with the diaphram clutch. Maybe a light spring just to keep the pedal up.
'Morning and first off, just want to shout a big Thanks to all of you for your help, experience (and patience)!
Question: Before I start a search of hardware and other parts bins within a X-wide radius of my home;
is anyone already aware of a particular light spring (and source for same) with "just enough" strength (and length-of-stretched out position) to keep the pedal up while replacing the stock over center spring (which is excessively heavy now that I have the McLeod diaphragm clutch installed)?
I ask as, right now, when my clutch pedal is all the way up, I can still put my fingers under it and "lift" it up a 1/2" or so. There's no tension to lift it up, just free space. With the pedal apparently not coming a-l-l the way back to rest up against its full 'stop' position, I just want to make sure the throwout bearing is not even partially engaged (when the clutch pedal is released but, the over center spring is not there to really, REALLY pull the clutch pedal up a-l-l the way).
We got the McLeod diaphragm clutch in yesterday and it is a WORLD of difference over the B&B racing clutch that was in the car when I found her. That plus, installing the right size front bearing on the original small block tranny -- for the big-block ('513') bellhousing --; using a roller bearing on the input (Thank You Brewer's!); removing, cleaning and re-lubing the entire shifter mechanism; and, adjusting all the shifter rods (after lining up the holes in the bottom of the shifter assembly) result in a drive and shifting that is NOT EVEN CLOSE to the same car 2 weeks ago!
I really feel blessed with a buddy like mine willing to 'show me the way' and access to a forum of experince like this one so, I say again: Thanks to all!
