fan pulley on conversion to sanden compressor
« on: January 24, 2011 - 06:03:33 PM »
I have tried to run a belt that ran thru the alternator-fan-power steering and  crank  but cannot tighten it. I have a single fan pulley. I have a  340 1972 Barracuda  factory air car.

You need a double-groove fan pulley.  With all of those accessories on one belt, you can't be getting more than 45* of engagement on your water pump or crank...guaranteed to slip or overheat, whichever comes first.

Got any more info on what you're doing?  I'm looking to convert to a Sanden compressor.

I voted "tech"

I have 2 small block A/C cars. I can send some pics up when I get home, if you need to see how the belts run.  If I remember correctly, the alternator goes to the compressor then to the crank. The power steering and the fan are on the same belt.
The water pump has a single pulley.

Mate,I understand the problems you're having.
I've done a Sanden conversion to both my BB challenger and SB Dart.

You just have to do a little Fabrication or modification of your brackets and everything can fit.  I also have a friend with a shaker on a hemi, that cut off the extra mounting tabs so everything looks fatory.  Another friend adapted one to his small block too.  You have to start with the A/C pulleys and brackets before proceeding.

Here are a couple of pics of cars I've seen.
