NAPA Power Steering gear box
« on: March 01, 2011 - 06:13:01 PM »
well, it turns out that my gear box is shot. I'd love to order the FF box, but all the shipping and the cost of the unit is too high for me right now. NAPA has a reman unit for $130.00. Anyone have an opinion on NAPA products? it has a limited lifetime warranty.

I have the Napa unit - sprung a leak after a year, NAPA replaced in no questions asked. Current unit has no issues so far, very happy with it.

I use NAPA all the time here, in fact I just picked up a reman steering gear for a 69 Road Runner I am working on. Warranty is not a problem, just keep your receipt. I warrantied a alternator for my Suburban after 14 years. They were suprised at the age of the receipt and the fact that I had it.  :bananasmi

You will probably get yours in first, I am in the process of rebuilding the entire front end and then putting  the new engine and trans in, going to be a bit before I drive it.

nice. i'll let you know how it feels. I'm thinking about getting flow tech headers and wonder if this new steering box will cramp their fit?

I just ordered a steering box from O’Reilly Auto Parts; 1989 Dodge Diplomat SE with Police Package = $160.  I also ordered a new PS Pump, both hoses (plus extra for the cooler).  Also had to order a new exhaust manifold gasket set.  Had to take off the DS exhaust manifold to get the steering box out.

Anyway, does anyone know how much PS fluid will be required for a new system?
Also, any preferences to a certain brand of fluid?
