Radiator questions
« on: March 06, 2011 - 03:13:47 PM »
I am updating my motor from a 318, with auto trans and AC with a 26" radiator, to a 440, 5sp with AC.

Can I use my 318 radiator, it was recently serviced so I would like to keep it.  I know that the big blocks have the upper and lower hoses on the same side.  And I know I can get a water pump that discharges to the passenger side.

So will it cool sufficiently? will the upper hose clear the ac unit?

if it won't work what radiator do you recommend?

Thanks.

IT may work for you , the factory compressor sits on the right side , the aftermarket compressor sits on the left so the upper tank may have the inlet on the side you need , the water pump housing from different years can have either a left or right lower hose connection . The rad being 26" may well cool the 440 , is it s a 2 or 3 core rad?

It's a three core Neil.  I saw that I can get a water pump with the hose on the passenger side, so I may give it a try.

I had 2 radiators checked last year. If yours is out, get it checked at a radiator shop. They did it for free for me.
They can tell you if your old one is flowing at 100% or if it has any restrictions and check for any minor leaks.

I had it serviced just a few months back  :2thumbs:......when I put a hole in it while I was redoing my grille and bumper.  :bricks1:

Ooops!!  :misbehaving:

We learned that in the Army.
The 5 Ton radiators are mega bucks. W01 shop officer would have our hides if we put a hole in one.
