Challenger Console Recommendations
« on: March 04, 2011 - 04:49:13 PM »
I'm thinking about adding a center console for my Challenger.  I have a manual speed transmission and I'm wondering if anyone here has had good or bad experiences with reproduction consoles.  I am checking ebay too for a good used one, but I haven't seen a complete one yet, just the various pieces.  I'd rather not buy it piece by piece if I can avoid it.

Any vendor recommendations?

I believe Tony's Parts is the one who had the repros made.  I havn't heard anything bad about them.  A new console is on my list of interior parts I need to get.

I got mine (used) at Carlisle 2 years ago for $200 71-74 model in great shape! There were lots to choose from! Any auto console can easily be made into a 4 speed console FYI.

That's not a bad price.  Maybe the "group" buy will be this part?

Thanks for the insight.  I did see an older thread indicating the same thing and I saw that some repo manual consoles were kinda hacked up coming from the vendor.

Personally, I always like to go factory over repro if possible. As someone mentioned, you can pick up a clean crack-free auto console, clean and redye if needed, add a new 4 speed top plate and make the cuts needed to get it to fit correctly. I also replaced all the fasteners/hinge etc., also.

This is what I did and it came out damn near perfect. Looks like new. Cost for parts and the dye was about $300 total which is about what you'll end up paying for the repro once you buy all the other pieces.

I agree with you Grec.  The repo stuff never quite fits as good as the originals

I have an original Automatic console that you will need to paint black, and maybe rework  if you need it...In pretty good shape, but is green..
