Dash light above headlight switch question.
« on: February 07, 2011 - 10:51:05 PM »
I was just replacing the bulb to the light above my heater controls when I found something sticking out of the area were the dash lights are (it is a rallye dash by the way). I took the dash lights off and found a socket on the far left light directly above the light switch. Put a bulb in and it works...the problem is it is on all the time, even when the car is off and no key in the ign, door open or shut, doesn't matter. I took the light out and traced the wire to a silver cyn thingy with 3 prongs. I'm guessing the the 3 prong thing is bad causing the dash light to be on all the time, or is this light supposed to be on all the time?

I put a picture to show what I am talking about on the light location. Any info would be helpful.

Thanks again, Mike

I was puzzled by this when I replaced that bulb with LED's and found it had NO power. I then, reallized it liked to stay on after I closed the door. It's on a TIMER that goes off after about 10 seconds....That Thing sticking out is a socket that directs the light to focus it onto the headlight switch, Wiper switch, etc.

Yeah, I was working on mine too. That light is powered from the delay harness and also powers the Map light by the passenger's feet.  It's tied to the 3 prong ground switch at the driver's door at the yellow wire with a black tracer.

The timer is dead till you hook ground to that wire as long as the pink wire is hot.
If the light doesn't come on within 3 to 5 seconds the timer is bad.

Great, thanks for the info.

If I needed to replace the 3 prong delay, were do you get from?

Thanks, Mike

I never had to buy one. I always had spares from parted out cars.  Maybe someone here has had to get one replaced.

I think I bought the time delay relay from Megaparts on Ebay.

Hey guys,

Was this something that was an option?  or was it standard on all cars?

I went out to look at my car and noticed the slot in the dash for it but no light or socket....

Thanks...

If you don't have a light there, if you have a small socket, you can ground it to the hole then hook the hot side to your dash light's orange wire. It won't be on a time delay but will light the switches and dim with the dimmer.

I think it was an option. I've had three rallye light bars and two had the socket. None of my non-rallye bars had it.

EASY! All I did was wire the "Strip" LED's to my dash lights and stick 'em on...DONE..HOWEVER! The LED's DO NOT dim with the fader...I wasn't concerned with this as I don't ever dim mine. And Yes, I have a NON Rallye dash with the light above the headlight switch...
