Another "firewall insulation picture needed" thread
« on: March 19, 2011 - 02:21:15 AM »
Hey all, I searched through the other topics that talked about firewall insulation pictures and all the pictures didn't seem available (were not found - 404 error). Looking for pictures of the insulation pieces in their installed locations. I have the kit for a 70 Challenger with AC and there are no instructions.

Anyone?

Thanks again.

I've got a pic of a non A/C car but I don't know how different they are.  If no one gets you your A/C pic, let me know and I can post my pic if you think it will help.  I do know that the plastic "push-on" pins that come with the insulation kits are not factory correct looking.  I reused my origonals but if it's a big deal to you, the factory style pins are available through Mega Parts.  I'm sure other places have them too.

Ok, I got several of the kit pieces in place as seen in the picture. I'm pretty sure this is correct, anyone confirm?

It's been a while since I've been able to work on the car but I've finished putting the heater/ac box together except for the vacuum lines. I have two pieces left that I don't know where they go. They're mirror images of each other. Any idea where these go?

I suppose they might be for the kick panels but I'm not clear where since they're not really kick-panel shaped. They don't go on the box itself, there was another piece of insulation that isn't in the picture that is for the box. Getting the dash out was done a long time ago and I don't really remember it being too terrible. The issue here is that the car was a non-ac car that I'm putting an ac box into.

The kit was from year one.

If you wouldnt mind posting the non ac picture i would appreciate it.

Ok, so a couple votes for kick panels. Do they go in the spot where the lower door hinge bolts go? Do the perforations get removed from these sections?

Thanks again.

I would also like to know where these pieces go.   I am installing the same this weekend and I am scratching my head as I don't remember seeing these when I dismantled 4 years ago.  :clueless:   Perhaps the pack of the kick panels (plastic)?

I will check the other threads to see if anyone has some ideas.

Yes they do. The reason for the perforations is because the insulation goes into the recesses in that area, not just sandwiched between the kick panel and the metal.
